The Law Foundation of BC is a foundation that is set up to support legal research, legal education, and law reform, as well as law libraries and legal aid in BC. It funds the frontline legal services for low-income people, as well as a range of justice initiatives among Indigenous, and other communities throughout the province.
Josh Paterson, Executive Director, states, “Our foundation has a vision for a future where systems of law allow all people to live and thrive in dignity. The justice system in Canada, that the provinces and territories have, are not the only ones. To make sure that people are treated in a way that is just, so people can live their lives in the way that they want to, with health, with dignity, and with bright futures for their communities, it needs to be inclusive of the First Peoples. We believe Next Steps: Rebuilding Indigenous Law can make that a reality.
We’re incredibly proud to have been invited to partner in this work. For us, this feels like an important and rare opportunity for our philanthropic foundation to support something that is truly transformational, that is unique anywhere in the world, to rebuild, indigenous legal orders that have been suppressed, and to do so in their entirety rather than piecemeal.”
